How much do you know about health checkups?

What You Should Know About Health CheckupsWhat are health checkups? A health checkup is a physical examination centered on health. The "Interim Regulations on Health Checkup Management" (卫医政发〔2009〕77号), issued by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China on August 5, 2009, states that "a health checkup refers to a diagnostic procedure that uses medical means and methods to conduct physical examinations on examinees, understand their health status, and detect early signs of diseases and health hazards." Health checkups use medical means and methods to conduct physical examinations. This includes basic examinations by various clinical departments, examinations using medical equipment such as ultrasound, electrocardiography, and radiology, and laboratory tests of blood, urine, and stool. Health checkups are physical examinations centered on health. Generally, medical professionals consider health checkups as comprehensive examinations of the body before any obvious disease appears. It's convenient to understand the body's condition and screen for diseases. That is, the use of checkup methods for physical examinations of healthy people is called a "health checkup", or "preventive health checkup". Health checkups are used to understand the examinee's health status. Based on the examination results, it can be determined whether there are any abnormal physical signs, and the nature of these abnormal physical signs can be further analyzed. Some abnormal physical signs are physiological variations and can be checked regularly, while some may be risk factors for diseases and need to be intervened and corrected through health promotion measures. Some signs, however, are diagnostic criteria for diseases and require further examination and confirmation. Physical examination is a diagnostic step in medical treatment, the first step in medical treatment, and a diagnostic method for symptoms or diseases and their related factors. Because people used to only see a doctor when they were sick, checkups aimed at disease treatment are called "medical checkups." Checkups conducted for procedures such as employment, enrollment, enlistment, driver's license, going abroad, marriage, and insurance are considered checkups for specific jobs or behaviors and are called "social checkups." Checkups for people who are not sick, have early-stage diseases, or are likely to become sick, belong to health checkups.
