Health Kiosk
Simply put, a health kiosk is a venue provided by public health institutions under government leadership for people to conduct physical examinations, receive intervention guidance, health education, and access health knowledge.
Its characteristics are: voluntary participation by the masses, autonomous health management, and self-management. Its manifestations are: doctor-patient cooperation, human-computer interaction, and patient self-service. We cannot simply understand it as a "health check-up kiosk", nor can we complexly view it as a "disease diagnosis kiosk", much less elevate it to be understood as a "community chronic disease management kiosk".
For example: the "Jilin Health Kiosk Project" implemented since 2011. One of the major government-promised "people's livelihood initiatives", a major project in Jilin Province's medical reform to benefit the people. Project functions: to provide free health checks and consultations for key populations; simultaneously, to conduct free health education, guiding community residents to improve their lifestyles, bringing convenience and benefits to low-income urban residents, and "managing their own health".
As an important component of the online hospital outside the hospital, health kiosks are mainly located in communities, community health centers, and large-scale group examination enterprises. They are built by large hospitals, with partner enterprises providing standardized construction and supporting services, and are interconnected with the hospital's health management platform.
The health kiosk is the service terminal of the online hospital, undertaking the monitoring of health indicators and chronic disease management of post-examination, discharge, and post-diagnosis populations outside the hospital, ensuring the implementation of doctors' orders; and incorporating community residents into the management scope. Through health monitoring and health education, chronic disease populations are screened, and medical guidance and appointments are provided, achieving early prevention, early detection, and early treatment.
With "health kiosks" set up in community health service institutions, residents can have their blood pressure, blood sugar, and even mental stress levels measured for free at their doorstep. This data is transmitted via the internet to the information platform of large hospitals for permanent storage, and residents can also receive online health assessments and guidance from doctors at large hospitals.
Essential equipment for a health kiosk mainly includes:
(1) Computer hardware and network;
(2) Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) constitution identification;
(3) Height and weight scale;
(4) Sphygmomanometer;
(5) Glucometer;
(6) Waist circumference meter;
(7) Health touch-screen all-in-one machine.
Functions of a health kiosk:
a. Self-service health preservation and maintenance;
b. Self-testing for chronic disease prevention and control;
c. Self-check of balanced diet and exercise;
d. Self-examination of TCM constitution;
e. Self-assessment of mental health;
f. Self-enjoyment of brain-boosting activities;
g. Self-creation of health records.
Objective
Through the construction of health kiosks, improve the early detection and management level of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes in communities, advocate a modern self-service health management model, gradually form a modern healthy lifestyle, and improve residents' health levels.
Site Selection Requirements
Health kiosks can be located in community health service centers, or combined with community or sports venues, with an area of approximately 30-50 square meters being suitable.
Basic Equipment
Health kiosk configuration consists of two main parts: measurement tool configuration and intervention guidance configuration.
1. Measurement tool configuration. This involves configuring commonly used and simple measurement equipment, such as height meters, weight scales, sphygmomanometers, pulmonary function meters, and blood glucose monitors. These configurations can be adjusted according to the amount of government investment, proceeding as needed.
2. Intervention guidance configuration. This involves carrying out population health lifestyle actions centered on the control of chronic disease risk factors, conducting health tests, teaching knowledge about a reasonable diet, appropriate exercise, smoking control, etc., for chronic disease prevention and control, improving people's awareness of chronic disease knowledge and self-care, and enabling them to master healthy lifestyles and control risk factors. Its core equipment: health touch-screen all-in-one machine.
3. Sound management system. A sound and complete management system is the basic guarantee for the normal operation of the health kiosk, including clearly defined responsibilities and quantified performance evaluations.
Main Functions
1. Self-service testing
"Health kiosks" are equipped with various types of health data collectors, allowing residents to conduct health monitoring at any time. Data is transmitted in real-time to the corresponding medical/health management institutions, where professional doctors provide guidance. 2. Health assessment
In a health kiosk or any place with internet access, users can log in to the personal health space on the online health center website and use various health assessment tools, including questionnaires for self-diagnosis/self-testing of diseases, health self-testing, lifestyle assessment, and disease risk assessment.
3. Health intervention
Based on the user's health assessment, the system will generate a health intervention plan, including chronic disease management plans, personalized exercise plans, lifestyle interventions, obesity/weight loss management, personalized dietary plans, and stress management.
4. Report printing
Users can print test reports and assessment reports in the "health kiosk". Examination results can be used as evidence or reference for hospital visits.
